About EYE

The Enabling Youth Employment (EYE) Dashboard for Africa is a product of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group specifically designed for policy dialogue and advocacy to address the rising situation of Youth Unemployment in Africa.  It provides comprehensive and comparative information on the different aspects that impact youth development and their productive engagement in the labor market in African Countries. The dashboard is, constructed using a variety of data that measure the various dimensions of the Youth Employment Situation and the institutional frameworks that promote better utilization of what is probably Africa’s greatest resource – the continent’s youthful population.

By combining diverse dimensions of the youth welfare, the dashboard is an appropriate tool for understanding the performance of African countries in youth development. The EYE also highlights African countries which are not up-to-date with their data to channel more effort towards labour market data production.

In May 2016, the African Development Bank Group adopted the Jobs for Youth in Africa Strategy 2016 – 2025, to equip young people to realize their potential and spur inclusive economic growth, with a specific goal of creating 25 million jobs and equipping 50 million youth with employable skills within a period of ten years. The EYE fulfills the delivery of ACTION 4 of the Jobs for Youth in Africa Strategy of the AfDB Group.

The EYE dashboard is developed using a variety of existing credible data that measure various dimensions of the youth job situation and the institutional environment in Africa that promote better utilization of what is probably Africa’s greatest resource – the continent’s youth population
